On August 4 th , 2025, researchers from the University of Costa Rica (UCR) presented the “Pathogens Portal Node – Costa Rica” to the academic and professional community dedicated to the study of pathogens, through a platform launch event. The project and its implementation involved the participation of Dr. José Arturo Molina Mora (researcher, coordinator), Dr. Rebeca Campos Sánchez (researcher), and computer scientists José Antonio Brenes Carranza and José Daniel Sánchez Castillo.
Pathogens Portal Nodes are globally renowned digital spaces of the Pathogen Data Network —supported by the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB) and the European Bioinformatics Institute— dedicated to the access, analysis, and distribution of high-impact infectious agent data.
Its objective is to serve as a large-scale platform and collective database whose information can be used to improve diagnostic tools, drive the development of new drugs that effectively combat pathogens, and enhance more effective therapies for patients, particularly those who have developed resistance to antibiotic treatments and have limited therapeutic options available.
