About
The Pathogens Portal Node Costa Rica (PPN Costa Rica) serves as a vital resource for researchers, clinicians, and policymakers, providing up-to-date and comprehensive datasets on pathogens. This node has been established at the Universidad de Costa Rica with the support of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB) to incorporate Costa Rica as a regional node of the Pathogens Portal ( https://www.pathogensportal.org/).
The Pathogens Portal is a platform aimed at promoting the collection and exchange of pathogen data, in line with the policies of the Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing (PABS). PABS refers to the access to pathogen information and the sharing of benefits derived from it, with the goal of ensuring equitable access to these resources and the benefits they generate. This initiative is crucial for supporting the prevention, preparedness, and response to pandemics and the study of pathogens in general.
In its initial phase, the PPN Costa Rica has been established as part of the Project “iPAT: Platform based on Genomics, Bioinformatics, and Artificial Intelligence to study Pathogens isolated in Clinical Settings”, funded and supported by Vicerrectoría de Investigación de la Universidad de Costa Rica.
